\nThere is a copy of the planning process (as a word doc) on the wiki now. Use this as the structure for your task 2 answer. Copy this flow chart into your essay answer. You could organise each paragraph in the same sequence as the flow diagram...

\n
\nTask 2: 1 a. what data and information was required to help inform the pdm process?
\n- include the names of the types of reports
\n- include any public consultation (formal or informal)
\nTask 2: 1 b. how was this data and information obtained?
\n- specialists brought in to write reports
\n- processes Meridian went through in the pdm process e.g. considering alternative c of a's etc.
\n
\nTask 2: 2 how did\/will the Councisl determine the affected parties:
\n- include how the affected parties (i.e. those stakeholders who have direct and indirect association with the proposal e.g. locals, landowners, public)
\n- how did these parties have their voice heard? e.g. public meetings, consultations etc
\n- what significance was given to the views of the parties affected?
\n
\nTask 2 3. describe constraints in the Council reaching final decision:
\n- as it has been referred directly to the Environment Court - this indicates there would have been several constraints and it would have been too complex an issue to deal with at a local\/district council level
\n- the environment Court will be dealing with> AEE, Distric Plans, RMA, Treaty of Waitangi, Public Consultations and eventually, likely, appeals.
\n
\nTask 2: 4 describe the consultative process:
\n-this includes a TIMELINE of events. What has happened chronologically associated with this proposal. When did Meridian first explore the possibility of this site? What happened next? What dm processes were applied to the consideration of alternative c of a's? etc. (refer to the blue book)
\n
\nTask 2 5: outline and explain how the final decision will be made and the outcome
\n- this is speculation as this has not happened yet
\n- outline what is next to happen according to the phase this proposal is up to (i.e. Environment Court)
\n- suggest what will happen in the future (possibly with reference to previous scenarios - i.e. were things appealed (yes) for how long (years) - is this likely to occur this time - why or why not?","dateCreated":"1310519328","smartDate":"Jul 12, 2011","userCreated":{"username":"clknelson","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/clknelson","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1334116585\/clknelson-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"40804863","body":"Task 3: The contribution of geography to pdm process
\n- answers that meet requirements of Merit\/Excellence come from students who place emphasis on including reference to, and examples from, the actual planning and decision making issue that has been the context (case study) of their answers.

\nGeneric answers don't do as well!
\n
\nConsider:
\n- natural and cultural environments and interactions
\n- environmental issues
\n- understanding land use
\n- cultural process of planning
\n- holistic
\n- location and spatial patterns
\n- models
\n
\nEvaluate the role of geography to the pdm process:
\n
\nJudgement is made about the role and value of geography to the pdm process. Best answers refer to explicit named examples and evidence from the pdm casestudy - rather than generic... how did something in the Hurunui casestudy relate specifically to geography?
\n
\nIn an evaluationn, students could refer to a brief comparison of geography to other disciplines (eg. purely economic or engineering or legal). You could judge the value of these other disciplines against geography - why is geo more thorough\/holistic etc?
\n
\nGeography may take a minor or major role - depending on the situation.
